Non-negotiable

B talked to the job guy yesterday. He wanted B to come in for an interview and they got talking. The guy said that B needing to take 2 weeks off in July was "non-negotiable". So Brendan said that he was pretty sure that missing his own wedding was "non-negotiable"... well, it was more funny than snarky the way he told it. The hiring guy basically said that B was perfectly qualified for the job and that his was by far the best resume he had seen, but wanted him to start yesterday kind of thing, and couldn't absorb him being away 2 weeks in july, etc. So, there is a possibility that they may have a part-time position there which would be better schedule-wise anyway, but unsure as yet. Brendan was pretty annoyed at the inflexibility of the guy after he had admitted that Brendan was the best candidate. In any case, the job would probably not mean more time in Tulsa - that is fixed by the internship timing - if his dissertation isn't done by next July (and it likely won't be written up and defended by then), he'll be finishing it off wherever we are at the internship site. The job would reduce the practicum hours Brendan would get doing therapy and neuropsych assessments. He already has over 2000 hours of practicum, which should be more than enough on his internship applications. You're right that the extra cash would be useful!

The boxing instructor was also a no-show! What a disorganized enterprise! I did start talking to another "spouse" - a woman who moved here from Chicago right after her wedding so her husband could go to law school. She was very nice and does PR for the Tulsa zoo. After the boxing class was cancelled we chatted on side-by-side treadmills for half an hour - and she gave me her card because I mentioned that I might like to get into Development work for a non-profit.
